My go-to approaches to therapy tend to be DBT, CBT, and ACT. They all have excellent skills that are useful to everyone. I even find them beneficial in my own personal life. The mindfulness skills, emotional regulation, and distress tolerance skills all help to build emotional intelligence and conflict resolution.
I teach about cognitive distortions and how they affect the thought process and behaviors, self-compassion, setting boundaries, and skills to identify healthy, unhealthy, and abusive characteristics in relationships. I also teach skills for clients to identify and name their emotions and skills clients can use to change their emotions and responses when they are out of proportion to the situation they experience.
I know clients are making progress in therapy when they use the skills learned in therapy on their own and come back to sessions and tell me about it. I also notice when clients start recognizing patterns and changing the way they do things.
Clients can supplement their time in therapy through journaling, mindfulness, exercise, reading therapeutic books, and practicing their coping skills.

The duration of your individual therapy sessions will vary. The decision on the number and frequency of sessions is typically collaboratively determined by the client and therapist.
At Thriveworks, we accept most major insurance plans, allowing many clients to pay as little as $0–$50 per session with their co-pay. We also offer self-pay options for those out-of-network or without insurance. Self-pay rates for talk therapy range from $160 to $240 for intake sessions and $135 to $195 for follow-ups, depending on your state. For psychiatry services, self-pay intake sessions are $255–$375, with follow-ups ranging from $175–$300, also varying by state.
