My go-to approach for treating anxiety is to offer my client information about how anxiety can take control of our thoughts and behaviors, exploring ways that anxiety may affect their daily life or how it may be held in their body without their awareness. In sessions, I may utilize skills from CBT or DBT and incorporate various somatic exercises to see what may be most beneficial to my client. I find using various skills and exercises can really be effective in helping someone find more balance, expand their awareness of their anxious thoughts, and assist in empowering them to change the unhealthy patterns that have been holding them back.
Some of the tools that I teach in anxiety therapy might be:
I know a client is making meaningful progress in anxiety therapy when they can share positive experiences, like that they have been able to manage while utilizing the skills they have learned in sessions. Hearing that a client was able to tolerate being somewhere or doing something that was really hard or unmanageable for them to do before is when I know they are finding their balance and growing through these experiences.
Clients can supplement their time in anxiety therapy by working on the skills that were discussed in sessions. It could be practicing their breathing techniques or even listening to meditation audios to help relax their mind when they are feeling stressed. Trying different techniques can be helpful so they can see what may be more useful to them in anxious times.
Preparing for your first anxiety session does not have to be stressful. Feel free to come and share what has been difficult for you to work through on your own. In sessions, we can narrow down what your goals are and help identify your biggest worry. If you know already what you may want as a goal for your sessions, feel free to write down your thoughts so you can remember all that you want to share.
Anxiety therapy helps people better understand and manage their anxiety. Anxiety therapists at Thriveworks in Allentown, PA can develop a treatment plan that will help you better manage your day-to-day anxiety or your anxiety disorder.
Anxiety therapy involves talking to a therapist about symptoms, potential causes, and more. Thriveworks Allentown therapists will then work with you to determine where your anxiety might stem from and teach you effective coping mechanisms.
One of the best ways to deal with anxiety is to learn about your own anxiety: your symptoms, what triggers it, and what coping mechanisms have been effective in the past. When you learn what your anxiety is tied to, it can help you be mindful of what’s really happening as well as prevent and mitigate symptoms by processing and working through the issue in therapy. Other strategies that have been shown to help manage anxiety are meditation, challenging anxious thoughts, exercising, and journaling.
Common symptoms of anxiety include:
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) can be incredibly effective in treating anxiety and anxiety disorders. Other effective techniques include exposure therapy, Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and EMDR therapy.
Anxiety therapy is conducted both in person and online, depending on the individual’s preferences and their therapist’s availability. We suggest choosing the option that best suits your needs.
On average, people can tend to attend 15 to 20 session of anxiety therapy (five or more months). However, this number is heavily dependent on the type of anxiety that’s being treated and its severity, with many choosing to attend anxiety therapy for a longer period of time to ensure its effectiveness long-term.
Yes, it is worth going to therapy for anxiety. If you are struggling with regular anxious thoughts and feelings that are affecting your day-to-day life or you suspect that you have an anxiety disorder, you should seek expert anxiety help.

Treatment includes helping you understand your anxiety symptoms and providing you with cognitive behavioral strategies and techniques to overcome it. The techniques used can include mindfulness, relaxation techniques, gradual exposure therapy, establishing routines, or exercises to help you retrain your brain.
