Self-esteem counseling is a therapeutic technique that works to improve an individual’s self-esteem and, through that, their overall mental health. Self-esteem counselors will help clients discover the roots of their poor self-esteem and work with them to build it back up and improve their quality of life.
Self-esteem counseling works by addressing thought or behavioral patterns that may be connected to an individual’s low self-esteem and adjusting them to be more helpful and uplifting. Through this process, Thriveworks therapists in Charlottesville will help clients better understand the reasons behind their low self-esteem and learn to effectively address those reasons, both in therapy and on their own.
Thriveworks self-esteem counseling in Charlottesville, VA is conducted both in person and virtually through online therapy. We encourage you to choose the option that works best for you.
On average, self-esteem counseling can last around 12 sessions. However, the needs and symptoms of each client will always vary, which means that the duration of counseling will differ as well. Some may find they only require a few sessions, while others might prefer to stay in counseling on an ongoing basis.
Do you have a hard time identifying your positive qualities? Do you feel inferior to other people? Do you feel lost or empty at times? If so, you may benefit from a Self-Esteem Group.
Jennifer Smith, LPC, and Anita Dean, LPC, will be facilitating this group on Sunday evenings, every 2 weeks, from 5:00 to 6:15 pm. Each group session will include an educational component about how to understand and improve your personal self-concept. You will learn to identify and more fully accept your strengths and weaknesses. You can begin to embrace your own uniqueness!
You will have the opportunity to put what you learn into practice during group time, guided by the group facilitator. You will also be provided with tools to take home and use between sessions. As group members become more comfortable with one another; time will be set aside for “checking in,” receiving support, and benefiting from the experience of others. You may also just listen if you choose.
The group is designed to run for 12 sessions, after which members may choose to continue, or complete their time in group. The facilitators will use evidence-based practices and techniques including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Action and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Studies have shown that these are effective in treating Mood Disorders, including anxiety and depression, as well as improving Self-Esteem/Self-worth.
Both group leaders, Anita Dean, LPC, and Jennifer Smith, LPC have years of clinical counseling experience and have worked in a wide variety of settings. Their specialties include, but are not limited to, depression and anxiety, mood disorders, and adjustment and stress-related disorders. They can help you deal with life transitions and assist you in changing negative behavior patterns.
If your clinician recommends this group for you, and you are interested, you may email us at anitad@thriveworks.com or Jennifers@thriveworks.com, so that we can set up a time to talk, and see if the group may be beneficial for you.
