Hear from our clinicians

How do you know when a client is making meaningful progress in individual therapy?

Danielle Fredrickson
Danielle Fredrickson

Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)

I know a client is making progress in individual therapy when they begin to make meaningful emotional and behavioral changes that support the goal they came into treatment to address.

What can clients do in their personal time to supplement couples/marriage counseling?

Scott Minchello
Scott Minchello

Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)

Clients would benefit from engaging in unified activities to promote growth and healthy conversation while avoiding what I call “hot topic” arguments (i.e. finances, intimacy, child raising) until the appropriate skills are learned. Couples may practice dialogue approaches used in sessions during supplemental time, including assertive tone and person-first language. I encouraged clients to participate in personal leisure when necessary with the purpose of developing boundaries and self-care.

What should someone do to prepare for starting anxiety therapy?

Danielle Fredrickson
Danielle Fredrickson

Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)

To prepare for your first anxiety counselong session, you can start by making a choice that you are worthy of investing in yourself and acknowledge how brave you are to take the fisrt step in scheduling as appointment.

What tools do you teach in depression counseling?

Danielle Fredrickson
Danielle Fredrickson

Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)

I teach the following tools in depression therapy:
  • Coping skills including meditation, breathing, journaling, and more to support symptom management and mood regulation.
  • The importance of creating structure in your day. We will discuss building routines around socialization to establish connection, physical activity, and hobbies and personal interests.
  • We learn how to embrace our emotions as neither good nor bad to minimize feelings of guilt and shame.
  • We learn to use empathy and compassion as the compass for our mental health journey.
  • We learn to reframe irrational fears, thoughts, and beliefs by challenging them using facts and positive collected evidence.

What is your go-to approach for cognitive behavioral therapy?

Danielle Fredrickson
Danielle Fredrickson

Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)

My go-to approach for helping people is cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). I prefer using CBT because it allows clients to understand the relationship between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.
