About
I strongly believe in a person’s ability to be able to overcome difficult situations that may arise in their lives. That ability comes from self-motivation and guidance using a unified approach by problem solving, gaining insight, and implementing strategies to alleviate symptoms. My name is Courtney and I have 15 years of experience. I hold a Master's of Science degree in Mental Health Counseling from UAlbany. Prior to obtaining my Master's degree, I attended UCONN to double major in Psychology and Human Development and Family Studies. I am currently licensed as an LPC in the state of Connecticut. I have experience providing group, individual, and family therapy in the community, inpatient hospital, outpatient facility, group home, and residential settings. I have been able to serve diverse populations and have varied experience with people of differing ages, race, religion, sexual orientation, and diagnoses. I am passionate about working with individuals struggling with parenting and behavioral needs of their children, anxiety, depression, life transitions, relationship concerns, and substance abuse. I typically use CBT, mindfulness, dialectical behavioral therapy, and solution focused techniques to assist in mitigating the struggles people are experiencing. Most importantly I use a collaborative approach as the client is the expert of their lives and my role is to help provide guidance and feedback rather than to dictate and force opinions. I look forward to meeting you and being a help to you in anyway that I can.

Have you ever thought about setting your child or teen up with a counselor? Child therapy or teen counseling can help young individuals adapt to big changes and cope with difficult challenges. For example, child therapy can help a child adjust after their parents’ divorce and process all of the emotions that come with this life change. And teen counseling can help a teenager who is struggling to make friends at school or who feels heartbroken after a breakup.
The truth is that kids and teens face many challenges, of which are similar to the challenges adults face. A child therapist or psychologist at Thriveworks Counseling in Milford can help them work through these challenges and ultimately live a happier, healthier life. If you think your child or teen could benefit from working with a counselor, consider reaching out to Thriveworks. Give us a call at (203) 951-3871 to schedule an appointment. We have extended hours in the evenings and on the weekends to best accommodate our clients who can’t make it during normal daytime hours.
Child therapy is a form of therapy designed to help children and teens. Child therapists and psychologists can help kids and teens to manage a mental illness, heal from trauma, better deal with stress, or cope with dysfunction at home. The issues these young individuals face are similar to those we face in adulthood—however, they are not as prepared or equipped to respond to their problems. This is where child therapy can make a meaningful difference, as child therapists are able to help kids and teens better understand the issue at hand and break it down into manageable pieces.
Child therapists are mental health professionals who have specific skills, training, and experience in helping young children, teens, and adolescents. The child therapists at Thriveworks Counseling in Milford, CT are licensed counselors, and they care deeply about the wellbeing of our children. They can offer you helpful insight into your child’s current state of mental health or even their developmental level. It’s important to remember that our kids are often going through changes and challenges that are not visible to us. Fortunately, a child therapist or psychologist can get to the bottom of these problems and prove incredibly valuable.
As we touched on above, children and teens experience difficult changes and challenges (much like those we experience in adulthood) that they aren’t equipped to deal with. “Parents want to see their child successful, happy, and healthy, so whenever their child is not one or all of those things, this can be worrisome,” explains Bernadette Hernandez, a Licensed Professional Counselor at Thriveworks in Milford. “When a parent notices that their child is struggling with something and they don’t know how best to help them, this is when they should consider pursuing therapy for their child.”
If you’ve noticed that your child is struggling, consider talking to them about child therapy or teen counseling, and setting them up with a professional. Here are a few signs that your child needs counseling or could benefit from working with a child therapy:
