At Thriveworks, Life transitions counseling is a specialized form of therapy that focuses on helping individuals navigate major life changes, adjustments, and transitions. The specific approach and techniques used in this type of therapy can vary depending on the individual’s needs and the nature of the transition. Life transitions counseling is designed to provide support, coping strategies, and a safe space for individuals to explore and process their experiences.
Life transitions counseling starts with an initial assessment where the therapist gathers information about your specific transition, emotional state, concerns, and goals. In this supportive and non-judgmental space, you can process the myriad of emotions that often accompany life transitions, including stress, anxiety, and grief. The counseling process also focuses on helping you to adapt to changing circumstances, set new goals, make informed decisions, maintain healthy relationships, explore evolving identities, and access ongoing support throughout the transition.
Life transitions are difficult because they alter our sense of what is \\\\\\\”normal,\\\\\\\” affecting our relationships, routines, work life, home environment, health, and much more.
The best way to make your life transitions easier is to seek the assistance of a counselor who can offer you Life transitions counseling to help address and adapt to the changes you are experiencing.
Life transitions counseling at Thriveworks is conducted both in person and via Online therapy. We encourage you to choose the option that works best for you.
The length of life transitions counseling can differ widely, depending on an individual’s specific needs and the changes happening in their life. Typically, this counseling is short-term, spanning several sessions over a few weeks or months. The exact number of sessions and how long it takes are decided in consultation with the counselor, considering how the individual is progressing and what they want to achieve.
As the old saying goes, “The only constant in life is change.” Knowing that’s true doesn’t necessarily make it easier to feel the truth of that statement. If you’re struggling to manage life transitions, whether they are part of the usual phases of life or something more unusual, reach out to a major life transition therapist at Thriveworks Portage. We’re here to help.
It seems there is a major life transition every decade or so—one year, you’re off to college, the next, you’re joining the workforce. One year you’re having a baby; just a few years later, they’re off to college, and your home is a very different place. Marriage, divorce, job changes, the growth of children, the death of a loved one—none of these changes are minor, but it can feel like your entire life is spent acclimating to a new reality, only to have that reality shift again as soon as you’re acclimated.
If a life transition is fast-approaching, or even if you’re months or years into this season of life, it’s never the wrong time to call. We can help you navigate a post-employment world.
If you’re going through a life transition and think you could use a little help making the adjustment, don’t hesitate to reach out. That’s what counseling is all about–helping people develop the strategies necessary to successfully handle a constantly changing world.
