About
My goal is to walk alongside you as you navigate challenges, rediscover your strengths, and create lasting change.
I'm Marie, a licensed therapist experienced supporting clients through a wide range of life challenges. In addition to traditional talk therapy, I integrate mindfulness, yoga, creative expression (art/music/writing/movement), and wellness practices such as sleep, nutrition, and stress management. This whole-person approach helps clients cope with symptoms to build deeper resilience and lasting change. I work with adults who want to feel more connected to themselves, find balance, and live more authentically. My ideal client may feel weighed down by stress, anxiety, or past experiences that continue to impact their present.
I hold a master’s in Mental Health Counseling from Post University. My approach is client-centered, evidence-based, and draws from REBT, CBT, and solution-focused goal setting. As a Certified Yoga Instructor and student of therapeutic horticulture at NC State, I integrate mind-body-spirit, mindfulness, and nature-based healing.
If you feel overwhelmed, anxious, or weighed down by self-doubt, you don’t have to face it alone. Therapy offers a space to feel heard, understood, & supported. My role is to meet you with compassion and without judgment to help you uncover the strengths & tools that already exist within you. If this resonates with you, please reach out.

James Fox is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who specializes in anxiety, depression, mood disorders, personality disorders, couples counseling, substance use, and trauma. He believes that everyone has the ability to assess and significantly improve their lives and mental health. However, sometimes it takes an objective third party to help guide you through these changes. It is his job to help you find ways to improve your life situation. While James cannot heal you, he can help you heal yourself and/or find the right support to achieve this goal.
James completed his Master's of Social Work at the University of Albany. He takes a holistic approach to providing care as all people are different and what works for one may not work for another. You will explore with James what will work for you, and then he will support you in getting it started and help you assess your progress along the way. James does not believe in therapy for life. So he will focus on and assist you in meeting your individual needs, and if you feel it is not working, then he will help you find another therapist who can guide you.
"I am no better or worse than you. We are two equal people trying to make our way through the 'bumps in the road' that life throws at us," says James. "I have found that the majority of issues people are dealing with are due to feeling disempowered, feeling they have no control, and this leads to distortions of the reality of their situation, which can cause mental health issues. Together we will work toward discovering what you can do today to take control and make your tomorrow better."

Yes, we offer comprehensive psychiatric services to meet your mental health needs.
Psychiatry allows people struggling to manage mental conditions or disorders to get access to medications that will make daily functioning easier, as well as work through any mental factors that might be causing or worsening their condition. Though medications can’t cure mental disorders, medication can make symptoms more manageable, making the process of psychotherapeutic treatment easier and more effective. Psychiatric care can be available through in-person psychiatry and online psychiatry, depending on where you live and your own preferences. However, psychiatric providers at Thriveworks in West Hartford, CT specifically offer online psychiatry to their clients.
A therapist has an education specifically rooted in therapeutic practice, approaches, techniques, and treatment. They cannot prescribe medications for clients, though they often refer clients to psychiatrists for medication management. Psychiatrists are medically trained doctors who specialize in mental health treatment, mainly through medication management and prescription, though they can also practice therapy.
A Psychiatry Nurse Practitioner (NP) is a highly trained and licensed professional who specializes in mental health care. They are qualified to diagnose and treat mental health conditions, prescribe medications, and provide therapy. Psychiatric NPs at Thriveworks are qualified to prescribe medications for a variety of mental health conditions. They work closely with you to develop a personalized treatment plan.
Oftentimes, psychiatrists or psychiatric professionals will perform a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation, which involves an in-depth discussion about your symptoms, medical history, and current medications. Once they reach a diagnosis, they may suggest starting certain medications depending on your condition and the intensity of your symptoms.
Yes. At Thriveworks, we offer online-only psychiatry services for optimal comfort and convenience.
Psychiatric services at Thriveworks West Hartford can last for as little or as much time as the client needs to reach their treatment goals, whether that be a month or two or over the course of a year. Treatment length is heavily dependent on the condition(s) being treated, the course of treatment, and the client’s goals for treatment.
Psychiatrists are mental health professionals who can prescribe anxiety medication and provide therapeutic treatment for anxiety, although not all psychiatrists offer therapy. At Thriveworks, medication management occurs via online psychiatry sessions.
Yes, Thriveworks accepts most major insurance plans. We strive to make mental health care accessible and affordable for everyone.
Talk therapy, or psychotherapy, is an effective mental health treatment. However, it isn’t the only form of mental health treatment. Many individuals also find value in taking medication, sometimes even alongside talk therapy.
If an individual does determine a need or express interest in taking a psychiatric medication, a psychiatrist or another psychiatric provider can help.
Are you looking for medication management in the West Hartford, CT area? Thriveworks in West Hartford has online psychiatric nurse practitioners on our team who can provide you with these services. To schedule services at our location, give us a call.
Many people think that medication management is only for those who are struggling severely: those with major depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, etc. In reality, medication management is for people with varying disorders and varying degrees. Psychiatric medication can be useful for someone who is struggling with mild depression or anxiety; it can help someone who is struggling with postpartum depression; it can benefit someone with adjustment disorder. Again, there are many different scenarios in which medication can prove helpful.
Psychiatric medication is not one size fits all. The online psychiatric nurse practitioners at Thriveworks Counseling will work with you to determine which type of medication might best help you. If you find that your medication isn’t helping you the way you need it to or the way you expected it to, your psychiatric nurse practitioner will help you find a different medication that does help with your specific symptoms.
Some people feel nervous about scheduling an appointment for mental health services. We understand that this is a major challenge for some people to tackle. If this rings true for you, it might make you feel better to know that…
