Dr. Alexandra ("Alix") Price is a clinical psychologist who has more than 18 years of experience assessing and treating various mental health diagnoses across inpatient and outpatient treatment settings. She believes in holistic recovery and is particularly passionate about using education and connection within the therapy relationship to help clients identify areas of meaning, purpose, and resilience. Dr. Price works with adults who are struggling with symptoms related to mood disorders like depression and bipolar disorder, anxiety disorders, trauma and complex PTSD, perinatal mental health, grief, life transition problems, women's issues, stress management and adjustment difficulties, and much more.
Dr. Price completed her Doctorate of Psychology (PsyD) at Florida Institute of Technology. She currently practices by telehealth in Virginia where she has been licensed as a clinical psychologist since 2007; she also became licensed in Florida in 2023. She has been credentialed with the National Board of Health Service Psychologists since 2007, and in 2014 became a diplomate of the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP) when she earned board certification in clinical psychology. Most recently, in 2025, she earned a certificate of completion in perinatal mood and anxiety disorders from Postpartum Support International.
While her approach to mental health treatment is largely integrative, Dr. Price relies on intervention skills from cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, motivational interviewing, and strengths-based, solution-focused models. She recognizes the important combination of open communication and goal setting as key within therapeutic relationships.
Dr. Price recognizes the value of having a safe place to talk, balanced with encouragement, support, and challenge to make change. If you are looking for that place, reach out and make an appointment. Dr. Price would love to make a connection and help facilitate a journey of change that's right for you.

My go-to approach for helping people in therapy starts with getting to know you as a person and not just a client. I want to know about your life: What’s working, and what could be better? What are your hopes and dreams? What are your strengths? What are you passionate about, what brings you joy, and how can we build more of that for you? I use an integrative approach that explores how thoughts, emotions, and behaviors overlap, and work to coax change in all of these areas to bring a better sense of life balance. Everything you share with me will help me to provide support and work toward solutions!
I often use a combination of the following tools in online therapy: mindfulness, CBT and DBT skills (e.g. behavioral activation, challenging of cognitive distortions and automatic negative thoughts, emotion regulation skills, distress tolerance skills, interpersonal effectiveness skills), tracking of patterns for problem behaviors and adaptive coping, strengths-based goal setting, and many more.
I know a client is making meaningful progress in therapy when they start to recognize they are coping better or feeling less distressed.
Clients can supplement their time in therapy by staying mindful of their therapy and life goals. Sometimes our therapy sessions will have homework such as tracking patterns and trying new skills, and the more invested clients can be in the therapy process, the better their outcomes are likely to be.
To prepare for your first therapy session, you can find a quiet, safe, comfortable space from which to join your telehealth session. The goal of the intake session is to collect information to inform future therapy services, so please be prepared to answer a lot of questions about your current concerns, mental and physical health, personal and family history, etc. I will ask you to tell me about what you are struggling with, but I also want to know the unique strengths and skills you already have! We will also begin to set goals to guide our work together. It's not unusual to feel a little nervous before the first appointment, and I will do my best to help you feel at ease. It is so important to find a therapist who is a good fit for you, and I welcome your feedback in that regard. I'm also happy to answer any questions you may have!
With Thriveworks, Online therapy is an effective alternative to in-person therapy services in which a client can speak to a Thriveworks therapist remotely via online video conferencing. Online sessions are just as effective as in-person treatment, but they can also provide added benefits like reduced travel time, saving money on transportation or childcare, and increased access to care.
Online therapy works much like traditional in-person therapy but takes place through secure video conferencing. Clients can attend Online therapy from any safe place they choose that has access to the internet, whether that be their home or another easily accessible place. Like in-person treatment, a therapist will work with their client to address their concerns, create goals, and establish an effective treatment plan.
There is no best option for online therapy—instead, it’s best to focus on finding a provider that meets your specific needs and with whom you can form a professional connection with.
Yes, online therapy is just as effetive for many clients as in-person sessions.
Online therapy can last for a few months to years depending on the goals and symptoms of the client. The treatment process will be unique to each client and lend itself to their specific concerns, which means that the time it takes to treat them will always be different. Timing is also up to the client themselves; they are free to stop therapy whenever they please, especially if they feel they have reached their goals and addressed their concerns.
At Thriveworks, we accept most major insurance plans, allowing many clients to pay as little as $0–$50 per session with their co-pay. We also offer self-pay options for those out-of-network or without insurance. Self-pay rates for talk therapy range from $160 to $240 for intake sessions and $135 to $195 for follow-ups, depending on your state. For psychiatry services, self-pay intake sessions are $255–$375, with follow-ups ranging from $175–$300, also varying by state. More information on current self-pay costs is available on our pricing page.
Beth and her husband got divorced when their children were very young. Over the years, she’s learned how to juggle working full time and raising two kids. However, she still finds herself rushing home to make dinner and spend time with them before it’s time to go to bed. After cleaning up around the house, she spends time reading over her kids’ homework to make sure it’s been completed. When she finally settles down for the night, it’s when her head is hitting the pillow.
Beth has been struggling for a while with depression and mood swings and feels like her overwhelming schedule has something to do with it. She wishes there was an option to get the help she needs that fits her busy schedule. Fortunately, there is.
Online counseling is an effective and easy way to get the mental health help you need when you need it. If you’re struggling like Beth, online therapy might be the right fit for you. Learning how to manage your time, stress, and complicated emotions are just some of the ways therapy can help.
